Tell us a little bit about your business journey, when did you set up and what does your business offer?

I launched the business nearly a year ago, after being made redundant from my position as Marketing Manager at a company that took their operations overseas. I’d always dreamt of building a creative business rooted in storytelling, I just needed the push (or shove!) to finally do it. I could feel it in my bones that it was finally the right time to create a better, more fulfilling career for myself. And I haven’t looked back since!

Copy Wave is my way of helping Manx businesses show up online with confidence, clarity, and charisma. I work with business owners who are experts in their craft, but not necessarily in marketing - and I bridge that gap.

My offerings include:

  • Lip-smackin’ copy: From websites to newsletters and everything in between. My words are strategic, brand-aligned, and full of flavour – like your business bottled into sentences.
  • Scroll-stoppin’ social: I don’t just "post for the sake of posting" – I create social content that turns followers into fans and gets people talking (and clicking!).
  • Results-drivin’ strategy: Strategic thinking meets hands-on execution. I combine big-picture thinking with day-to-day action to help my clients grow online with intention and impact.

A lot of my clients come to me feeling stuck… they’re so close to their business, they can’t see what’s worth shouting about. Either they’re unsure of their message, or they’ve got so much to say they don’t know where to start. They know their offer is juicy, but their audience just isn’t biting. They're pouring their heart into posts and hearing crickets, usually because the content feels scattered, not strategic.

And no cohesion or consistency = no conversions.

I bring a fresh set of expert eyes and the right content to get them seen, heard, and remembered. Most don’t have the time or budget for a full-blown marketing team — but they do know that winging it means missing opportunities. I help them move from chaos to clarity so they can focus on what they do best.

I’m a fractional content partner: full impact, part-time commitment. The best part is I’m genuinely in love with what I do and it shows in every piece of content I create, for every single client.

Big-picture thinker, small-detail doer — I deliver the kind of content output you’d expect from an in-house team… just without the price tag.

How has the Enterprise Support Scheme helped your business?

Oh, in so many ways.

The grant helped me invest in high-quality tools that are absolutely essential in my industry – from camera gear to the best-in-tech equipment. It means I’m able to produce high-standard work I’m genuinely proud of.

But more than just the funding, the training side of things was more helpful than I anticipated. I learned practical business skills, from managing finances and pricing services to setting goals and creating a business model that’s actually sustainable. The group sessions had such good energy, and I made real connections with likeminded people at the same stage. It was great because I was able to test my pitching skills to people who had marketing questions, and learn from others who had different business skillsets.

How did you find the experience of receiving support? (from enquiry to final receipt of funding/training/advice)

From day one, the process felt supportive and structured. My business advisor was patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in helping me succeed. She never made me feel silly for asking questions and she’s still cheering me on now, which says a lot.

The scheme isn’t a one-size-fits-all – it feels personal, like it’s designed around you and your goals. I always felt like someone had my back.

Tell us about your business – what do you enjoy most about the work you do?

I’ve always been a creative, so the thing I enjoy most is getting to shine across multiple industry sectors and crafting content that really stands out.

My mum and dad are both self-employed, so I’ve grown up with a genuine passion for supporting local, and now I get to do that every day through my work. Seeing the positive difference my content makes for other Manx businesses is such a rewarding part of the job.

Why did you choose the Isle of Man as the destination for your business?

Well, it’s home! I’m a born-and-bred Manx girl and there’s just something special about this island that makes doing business here feel personal.

Us Manxies all know that the community here is unmatched. Word of mouth travels fast, support is close at hand, and people want to see you do well. Starting a business here meant I could lean into existing relationships and networks I’d built throughout my marketing career, and that gave me a launchpad for initial momentum.

I also think there’s so much untapped potential on this island, more than people realise! So many incredible, passionate business owners doing brilliant things – they just need a bit of support telling their story and getting their name out there.

Outside of work, what do you like to do? How do you spend your free time?

Great question because when I first started out, carving out time for myself was something I really struggled with. I used to feel so guilty doing anything that wasn’t client work!! But I’ve learned (the hard way!) that looking after myself is part of running a successful business.

I’m definitely an active girly – I love going to Down South gym, getting out for a run, and doing Pilates. I’m also a big reader and love writing for fun when I get the chance - even if it's just journalling or a few messy thoughts at the end of the day.

Socialising at the weekend is so important to me. Freelance life can get a little lonely sometimes, and too much time behind a screen (or in your own head!) can be draining. Getting out, connecting with people, and switching off from work is my non-negotiable reset – it keeps me sane and creatively fuelled.

I also run a lifestyle Instagram page called TwennySmthn — it’s a little safe space I created for fellow twenty-somethings navigating the ups and downs of early adulthood. It’s where I let my creativity run wild, share honest moments, and build an online community that feels real and supportive. As a passionate mental health advocate, I love being part of a space that helps others feel seen.

How did you hear about the support schemes offered by the Department for Enterprise?

Word of mouth – good ol’ Manx networking! Both a friend and a family member had positive experiences with the scheme, and they basically said, “You have to apply.” So I did!

Would you recommend the support scheme to other businesses and what would be your top tips for going through the application process?

Absolutely… I’ve recommended it to so many people already! The scheme is a brilliant boost for anyone stepping into the self-employment world, it really sets you up with the tools, confidence, and clarity you need to build a solid foundation.

There are also so many other schemes available depending on where you are in your journey, which are all outlined throughout the process. I’ll definitely be looking into those as my business continues to grow.

My top tips:

  • Treat your application like a pitch – show the passion behind your business as well as the practical side. The group sessions were actually great practice for this – speaking about your business with different people really helps you refine your message. It was brilliant prep for pitching to potential clients down the line, too.
  • Stay in touch with people from your group – you never know how they could help you in the future (or how you could help them!). One of my first clients came from those sessions, and it’s always nice to have people in your corner who understand what it’s like to be on the start-up journey.
  • Stay on top of the admin – the paperwork side can feel daunting when you’re also juggling a new business, but the quicker you get it done, the quicker you move forward.
  • Apply yourself – The more you lean into it, the more you’ll get out.
  • Make the most of the 1:1 advisor time – the guidance is tailored, practical, and genuinely valuable. Business advisors are usually a pricey investment, so take full advantage of this free opportunity while you can! Go in open, curious, and don’t be afraid to ask all the questions (even the silly ones!).
