Applications now open for Step Programme 2026
15 December 2025
Local undergraduates and Isle of Man organisations are invited to take part in the 2026 Step Programme — a unique opportunity to connect bright young talent with impactful project-based placements across the Island.
Sponsored by Utmost International Isle of Man Limited for the third year, Step offers paid, project-based placements with tangible outcomes for local students in their second or penultimate year of university.
Students will gain hands-on experience, boost their employability, and contribute real value to local organisations.
Projects will run for an eight-week period during June, July and August and students will have the chance to win prizes at the 2026 Step Final being held on 14 August.
Organisations, including Government Departments, Local Authorities, businesses or third sector organisations, will benefit from additional skilled resource to complete projects while showcasing the diverse career opportunities available across the Island.
Tim Johnston MHK, Minister for Enterprise commented: ‘Our Economic Strategy sets out a clear ambition to create an environment that attracts and retains a dynamic, skilled, and younger workforce.
‘Programmes like the Step Programme are key to achieving that vision — offering local undergraduate’s meaningful opportunities to develop their skills, gain real-world experience, and build their careers here.
‘By connecting students with organisations across a wide range of sectors, the programme not only supports personal and professional growth but also strengthens collaboration between the Department, local businesses, and future talent — showcasing the fantastic career opportunities available within the Isle of Man.’
Winona Reese Dalugdugan, winner of Most Enterprising Student 2025 commented: ‘I’d absolutely encourage any students in their second or penultimate year at university to apply for the Step Programme. It’s a brilliant way to gain hands-on experience, build confidence, and make meaningful contributions to real-world projects.’
From digital track analysis systems, AI implementation to research, marketing campaigns, and website upgrades, Step projects span a wide range of disciplines. Each placement is carefully matched to the student’s skills and interests.
Applications close on 01 May 2026.
