Agencies resume recruitment for Non-Executive Chairs

17 September 2020

A government department is seeking two individuals with passion and experience within the Island's economy to fill two flagship roles.

A bid to appoint non-executive Chairs in two Department for Enterprise Agencies - Finance Isle of Man and Digital Isle of Man - was put on hold in the spring due to COVID-19.

However, the Department has now relaunched its search to fill the leadership positions and replace Aidan Doherty (Finance Isle of Man) and Lydia Barbara (Digital Isle of Man) who are stepping down at the end of their contracts.

The successful candidates will be appointed on a part-time basis for a minimum term of two years, with the possibility of a two year extension. Those who initially applied earlier this year are also being approached to assess their continued interest.

Laurence Skelly MHK, Minister for Enterprise, explained:

‘While the recruitment process was cut short due to COVID-19, we are now looking to recommence our search to find two new Chairs. As they move on to different ventures, Aidan and Lydia leave behind a strong legacy for their successors and I thank them both personally for their commitment and tireless dedication, going above and beyond throughout their tenure.’

Stephen Bradley MBE and Ranald Caldwell have both agreed to renew their terms as Chair of the other Executive Agencies, Business Isle of Man and Visit Isle of Man respectively, for a further two years.

The new Chairs must have senior management and board experience, a track record of achievement as a strategic leader, plus the ability to form and lead a cohesive and focused board.

Applicants should have a keen interest and passion for the Agency’s remit and should indicate in their applications the specific Agency Chair post to which they are applying.

The role has a minimum time commitment of 36-48 days a year, with remuneration of £15,000 per annum.

Minister Skelly added: ‘Over the last two and half years, the Department’s four Executive Agencies have delivered a comprehensive programme of activity and priorities, recognising challenges and pursuing opportunities for our economy, headed by our non-executive Chairs.

‘We are now looking forward to building upon this work and recruiting two talented individuals who will drive forward the respective agendas, placing the Island’s financial and digital sector in the international frame and leading in the development of exciting products and projects.’
