Opportunity to play a vital role in growing the Island's Visitor Economy
06 December 2021
Visit Isle of Man, an Executive Agency within the Department for Enterprise, is welcoming expressions of interest to join its Non-Executive Board.
The existing board members have come to the end of their initial term and the Agency, in support of its growth plans, are welcoming new individuals, both on and off-Island, with a passion for tourism and the Isle of Man. The Agency is looking for people who are dynamic, creative and strategic thinkers, and who share Visit Isle of Man’s vision in promoting the Island as a quality, year-round visitor destination, to submit their expressions of interest.
With headline objectives to grow annual visitor numbers to 500,000, with a subsequent economic contribution of £430million, by 2032, the Agency is seeking expressions of interest from individuals with relevant skill sets and a comparable growth mind-set to support it with its ambitious plans.
Ranald Caldwell, Non-Executive Chairman of the Visit Agency, commented:
‘The Isle of Man’s visitor economy plays a fundamental role in the Isle of Man Government’s overarching vision to build a secure, vibrant and sustainable future for the Island. Visitor spending provides income for, and supports employment in, the Island’s accommodation, retail, hospitality, attractions, transport, and entertainment sectors, with considerable supply chain benefits. The visitor economy is also vital to the Island in terms of maintaining and improving its air and sea transport links and enhancing the Isle of Man as a place to invest, work, live and relocate to.
‘Our research shows huge potential for our visitor economy to not only recover quickly from the COVID-19 pandemic but to also grow strongly through to 2032, ensuring we contribute to a strong and diverse economy, an environment to be proud of and an Island of health and wellbeing, as outlined in the Isle of Man Government’s ‘Our Island Plan’. Our ten year strategic plan, ‘Our Island, Our Future’, will launch in the New Year, setting the course for the Isle of Man to be a premier destination in the UK short break market.
‘As an Island destination with a fantastic seascape, coastline and landscape, UNESCO Biosphere designation, unique Manx heritage, culture and food, and international recognition as the home of the TT, we have many unique assets as a place to visit. There is so much more that we can do to make use of these USPs to help us stand out as a must-visit destination. Subsequently, we are seeking new applications to our Agency Board to help drive forward our action programmes that will guide how we grow our visitor economy.
‘I would like to take this opportunity to extend my sincere thanks to all members of the current Agency Board who have played a significant role in helping to build the foundations for growth, and supported industry through the challenges that the coronavirus pandemic brought with it. Their tenacity and patience has been greatly appreciated and their loyalty valued.’
