Meet the Chairs of the Department's Executive Agencies

The Department for Enterprise is continuing its transformation with the appointment of key figures to Chair the four new Executive Agencies. Aidan Doherty for Finance Isle of Man, Lydia Barbara for Digital Isle of Man, Stephen Bradley MBE for Business Isle of Man and Ranald Caldwell for Visit Isle of Man.

Finance Isle of Man – Aidan Doherty, Chair

Aidan’s career in the financial services industry has spanned over 40 years, the majority of them in the Isle of Man, having moved to the Island in 1984. His career, largely in Banking, has seen him based in Ireland and the Cayman Islands, as well as the Isle of Man, all of which has provided Aidan with an in-depth knowledge of the financial services industry generally.

Finance Isle of Man’s purpose is to promote and develop the Isle of Man’s significant financial and professional services industry and ensure its recognition as an international financial centre of excellence, in turn delivering long term sustainable economic growth to the Isle of Man.

Digital Isle of Man – Lydia Barbara, Chair

Lydia Barbara came to the Island to work with Microgaming almost nine years ago. As their Head of Innovation Strategy, she has extensive experience in consulting, writing, publishing and speaking on innovation, technology disruption and digital developments.  Alongside her role as Chair for Digital Isle of Man, Lydia will continue supporting Microgaming running their incubation lab worldwide, as well as starting out with her own new business venture.

Lydia is also a volunteer with the IOM Code Club and a founding member of Love Tech, a group of local businesswomen working to encourage girls and young women to explore tech careers. 

Digital Isle of Man’s purpose is to develop and implement a strategy which will support sustainable economic growth and establish the Isle of Man as a centre of international excellence for the digital economy.

Business Isle of Man – Stephen Bradley MBE, Chair

Stephen Bradley MBE has had an extensive career in retailing and property development and has been a long term supporter of the Chamber of Commerce through various committees including the main council and as lead for its Retail Committee.  Stephen will be standing down from these other commitments to support the agency.

In 2014 Stephen was awarded an MBE for his services to the retail sector and the wider community in the Island.  

Business Isle of Man’s purpose is to support businesses involved in the physical exporting of goods and services or operating within the domestic economy. Coordinating the promotion and development of opportunities within these sectors in order to ensure a prosperous and vibrant place to live, work and invest.

Visit Isle of Man – Ranald Caldwell, Chair

Before retiring in 2013, Ranald Caldwell held a variety of senior roles in banking and financial services, latterly with Lloyds Bank International and the Bank of Scotland International, and has a strong strategic and operational background with experience on several International boards. In recognition for his services to banking Ranald was made a Fellow of the Institute of Bankers in Scotland in 2007.

Ranald is on the board of the Erin Arts Centre and is often seen welcoming guests and artists to the renowned Mananan International Festival in Port Erin. He has also been a walking leader with a UK-based walking company and has supported Isle of Man Blue Badge Tour guides with walks for cruise visitors. Ranald is also a volunteer with the Isle of Man Civil Defence, which supports all the major Island sporting events.
